Our Story

The Story of Lucky's Taco Shop starts with a man named Lucky Leonard, born in the 1940s in Atlanta, GA. Lucky was an adventurous young man from an early age, from stealing cars and hearts to climbing the face of Stone Mountain. Sometime in the late 1950s, Lucky struck out with a band of Brothers to the west Coast to seek fame and fortune. Well, their luck ran out in Colorado when the Chevrolet Bel Air sprung a leak in the radiator and left the band of renegade teenagers stranded in Colorado's the Rio Grande National Forest. While the group contemplated what to do next, Lucky being the outgoing young man of the group, befriended the Australian National Lady's Volleyball team who were taking a canoe trip down the Rio Grande. Lucky jumped in a Canoe and never looked back, always looking for the next adventure.

Well, 3 weeks later Lucky finds himself in Juarez, Mexico, a sleepy border town always welcoming a stranger. Lucky only had a few dollars to his name, but he was an excellent card player and, while in a cantina, found himself in a poker game that stretched 48 hrs. And finding Lucky.. well Lucky. He won so much money he was able to buy a car and met a beautiful Native woman named Salome, and a treasure map to the lost gold of Montezuma. Lucky was on easy street…

Lucky and Salome traveled through Mexico City and saw the greatest of Matadors fighting and dancing with the fiercest of beasts. They dined with street cart vendors and the finest of restaurants in their adventures through Mexico City. Lucky absolutely fell in love with the food, people, and culture of Mexico. Salome loved the beach so they headed toward the west coast and ended up in Tijuana for the night. Lucky again found himself out of his element at a cockfight where he laid a few bucks on a rooster named Elmer, who continued to kick some rooster tail all night…. Eventually yielding another small fortune for Lucky who was a let it ride kind of guy. Salome and Lucky traveled the Baja Coast feasting on fresh fish, shellfish, and ceviche on their never-ending ride down the Pacific Coast to the beautiful white sandy beaches of Acapulco. It was a paradise of Love and full bellies……

Time passed and Lucky had the Itch to keep moving and exploring his newfound country of Mexico. They soon found themselves in the city of Oaxaca where Lucky fell in love with the 7 mother Moles and the great queso of the region. Salome took a job in a local queso shop and Lucky bought a tricycle and set out to make a fortune selling Tacos De Canasta every morning to the hungry towns' people on their way to work. A few months passed and Lucky decided that work really wasn't his thing yet, but adventure and freedom were his callings.

The Yucatan was calling and the couple answered the call as they barreled up the 307 stopping in the ancient cities of Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and eventually Cancun. They ate at every roadside taqueria and tamale house along the way till they hit those white sandy beaches yet again….. Lucky's Love of Mexico never faded even as he and Salome migrated back to the great United States of America and settled down and raised two boys and lived the dream, but always looking for the next grand adventure. Lucky's Taco Shop is dedicated to the pursuit of Adventure, Love, and Good Eats…
